For the map I've been looking at different icon shapes. Ideally each of the icons will be numbered to make it easier to reference, so here I've been testing how to combine the number with the icon and then placing them onto a sample of the map.

This seems to be the most appropriate choice, the heirarchy of icon/number seems to work in the right order and they are not too bulky that they will clutter the map.

The circles here are way too distracting and you notice the number before the space for the icon.

The outer circle here distracts from the actual number and it becomes less readable.

This demonstrates what the stickers might have to be printed like for the first option.
