Type Treatment

One of the main issues from the feedback I got about my film infographic for the butterfly effect was the intensity of the accompanying type. As well as reducing the size of the type in relation to the image I have been looking at how to bring out the key events and communicate between the type and image.

lining up circles with others

greying out type and combining circles

keeping all the type size the same

starting to grey out the other events

combining circles/sizes

Changing the size of the type for key events, the spacing is uncomfortable

colouring the numbers - don't even notice them

big circles/bad

Thought about trapping each line in between circles but it's become quite circus-y and also if I were to have these on each side of each column then it's going to be far too busy and too much.

Here I've included the circles from the diagram next to the event explanations, but I think the gap between the circle and the type is too wide in some parts and the eye doesn't move across naturally.

This is a disaster. I thought it might be a good way to break up the chunks of type into something more digestible. I used the colour thinking that it would help link key events with points within the timeline, but instead it's distracting, the colours clash and it's unreadable.
